VCP2007: endless reboot loop , "insufficient system resources"

I have been using an XP-SP2 VPC within a XP-SP2 operating system. After a
crash of the host-system, I am unable the start the guest system.

It does start the boot process, but at the login screen, I get the following
error message:
" lsass.exe SYSTEM ERROR
Insufficient system resources exist to complete the API"

after clicking 'OK', the system reboots again.

Unfortunately, starting in 'safe mode', 'restoring to previous known good
configuration', or all other trouble shooting startup options do not work!

I have been able to find information about the error message; however, all
of it applied to normal XP-SP2 systems.

Any suggestions how to solve this?
