Drag "n" drop?Source: microsoft.public.virtualpc Sent: 04/12/2008 From: "William B. Lurie" <(email address - cut out)> Message:I'm running 2 VPCs....in one, Win98, in the other,
Win ME.
Are there any on line instructions, or can someone
kindly give me a link, to tell me how to Copy and Paste
a folder from one VPC to the other, and from either
back and forth to my XP? Do I highlight, Copy, and Paste,
or do I Drag-and-Drop, or what?
Thanks.....

Sent: 04/12/2008 From: "Colin Barnhorst" <(email address - cut out)> Message:First, check the Add/Remove Programs in the guest and see if the additions
are listed. If they are, uninstall them and reboot the vm. Then download
and install the VPC 2004 adds, which can be downloaded from
http://vpc.essjae.com/. Windows ME is no longer a supported guest in VPC
2007 but it was in VPC 2004. Some users have had to reboot the host after
installing the 2007 adds in a guest before drag and drop would work.
However, I don't recall having to that with the 2004 adds so you may not
have to.

Yes, figuring I'd then install them. So it uninstalled
them, and told me to reboot, and I did that, too.
Then I tried the Install bit again, and again it went
through the motions of UNinstalling them.
So how do I install the Additions, and then what?

Exactly the same way as you would between physical PCs, i.e. with standard
networking...
Add all machines (both physical and virtual) into the same workgroup and
then proceed as normal..

Sent: 04/12/2008 From: "Colin Barnhorst" <(email address - cut out)> Message:Yes, the VPC 2004 SP1 additions are correct. Unzip it to a different folder
from your 2007 adds. It is an .iso file and you can capture it with the
emulated cd drive in the ME guest (right click on the cd icon, select
Capture Iso Image..., and browse to where you saved the file). It will
autostart and give you the same dialogue you have seen already. After the
guest restart you should be able to drag and drop, cut and paste, and use
shared folders between the guest and host. These functions are only
available with the adds installed.

Sent: 04/13/2008 From: "Colin Barnhorst" <(email address - cut out)> Message:No, the same applies to Win98. Somewhere along the line I got the idea you
were using ME, that's all. But the same exact steps apply. The adds do not
get moved to the guests and then run. The adds are mounted on the emulated
cd drive in the virtual machine window. The icons in the lower part of the
vm window are interfaces between the host and guest which are controlled by
the VPC software and not the guest. Mounting the iso file on the emulated
cd drive is not the same as copying them to the guest.

not yet upgraded it to Windows ME, although I will now if you

I prefer not to go online with software that I'd have to add
to the VPC's Win98 or ME at this time; more complications.
So what I meant was that I downloaded and saved in my XP machine,
in a newly created folder named ZIPFILES. I did unzip and I saw
the .iso file. I gather from your implication that I need these
files in the Win98 in VPC, and the only way I know to get them
there would be to burn them to a CD while in XP, which I can do.
(11 MB is too big for a floppy).
Please confirm that I'm proceeding as you intended, and add any
further explanation i you think I need it........and thank you.

The ISO file is what you need, no reason to burn to a CD.
- Start your virtual machine so it is running in a VPC window
- Now in the *host* use Windows Explorer to drag the ISO file to the
small CD icon on the bottom of the window where the virtual machine is
running and release it there. This is equvalent to right-clicking the
CD icon and selecting "capture" there but much faster.
- In any case this will be the equivalent of inserting a CD into the
drive in the *guest* so if it has Autoplay enabled you should see the
install dialog pop up inside the guest.
- Just go from there.

Well, another hour, and my next VPC problem.
Installing my Lexmark 5400 Series printer.
The CD drive is shown in My Computer as Drive D...., and
the Lexmark disk reads it and keeps on referring to drive D.
But it stops part way and doesn't install. The drop down menus
in my Win98 refer to the drive as Drive E. Any clues how I
can get it to install?

Installing my Lexmark 5400 Series printer.
The CD drive is E, but the Lexmark disk reads it
and keeps on referring to drive D. And it stops part way and
doesn't install. That's in my Win98 VPC. In my Win-ME VPC
It's a bit worse....it doesn't even browse to that CD drive.
Any advice?
