Problems Configuring NAT in a VM

I want a Windows 2003 Domain Server to play with so that I can practice
installing and configuring ISA Server.

My development & support environment is a Vista Ultimate Laptop with Virtual
PC 2007. I have several different OS virtual machines.

I built a mini network with a Win2003 Domain Controller (with AD, DNS,
DHCP), a Win2003 Application Server (with SQL Srv & Oracle), and a WinXP Prof
Client (with development SW) all on a local network.

Now here is where I am encountering difficulty and now I'm not sure if I can
set this up the way I want. It would be cool if I could. I have a SBS 2003
home domain. Let’s call it "MyDomain.local". My laptop receives its IP Addr
(192.168.16.10) from the "MyDomain.local" DC.

I created a new domain and forest (NewDomain.local) in a Virtual Machine
with 2 NICs in the controller. One NIC is the inside LAN (Local Only, Static
IP) and the other NIC is the actual HW NIC of the laptop (internet
connection, DHCP).

With the inside NIC disabled, I confirmed that I have internet access from
the DC VM through the outside NIC. I then enabled the inside NIC and used the
RARA Setup Wizard to install NAT and bridge the NICs. Everything appears to
work, but I now can't access the internet from the DC VM. If I disable the
inside NIC, it will work. If I re-enable it, it fails.

If I could get internet access with both NICs enable, then I would know that
things are working and I could then proceed to installing and practice
configuring ISA Server in a known good environment.

Question: Is this failure due to the fact that both NICs are seeing non
routable IP addresses (192.???.??.?). In this particular configuration, does
the outside NIC need to see a standard public IP Address for this to work?

Thanks

Greg
