IP Conflict

I am using virtual pc 2007. Both host and guest are XP Pro. The host
connects wirelessly to a router to get an IP address.

Every time the guest starts up, it gets the message "windows - system
error "There is an IP address conflict with another system on the
network"

The guest has an ip address of 192.168.1.102. The host is
192.168.1.101.

There are no other workstations on this network and I can check if
someone is accidentally connected via wireless to the network and
there is not.

Would anyone know why I am getting an IP conflict?

Just doublechecked, it's not a conflict with the router, which has an
IP of 192.168.1.254. The cable modem has an external IP, so it's not
conflicting with that.

How did you create the vm? Are you running two copies of the vm? If you
copy a vm and run both the copy and the original at the same time you will
see such a message.

I've not connected to 3 different networks and get the same msg on the
guest on all 3 networks...so I don't think it's a problem on the

You don't have the Microsoft Loopback adapter installed by any chance? An
ipconfig /all on the host might give you an idea. You might also want to run
a ping sweep of the network with the Guest VM off and see if the address
shows up. I use a tool called Angry IP for doing Ping Sweeps.

Angry IP is able to run port scans as well, so some Anti-virus programs see
it as a port scanner and will try and delete it.

Do an "ipconfig/all" for host and guest and post the results.

I have seen something similar in the past. I didn't fix it, I worked around
it and put it down to "network stupidity" - an OSI Level 0 problem - The
underlying universe is at fault, so I can't change it (easily).
