I'm able to install CentOS 5 fine following the Virtual PC 2007 Tech
Ref v0.5 available at http://www.essjae.com/VPC/.

However, when I'm in Gnome UI, I have no control of the mouse. How do
I gain control of the mouse? Please advice. Thanks.

I'm connecting to it directly. I start the VM, it shows the console
login prompt. I login and type startx.

During installation there should be a screen for setting the monitor type.
Choose Generic LCD (regardless of your real monitor) and then there should
be a setting for resolution. Don't use 24-bit color depth.

I don't recall how to access this after installation, but that is what you
are looking for.

Let me add -- for what it's worth, this fix also applied perfectly in the following environment:

Visual Server 2005 R2
Centos 5.2 with Kernel version 2.6.18-92
