on the guest PC. Any ideas?

vpc.visualwin.com

will also work without issue on VPC2007

If you are thinking of the principal Linux distros (Ubuntu, SuSE etc), the
main problem you will have is that VPC doesn't support 24-bit graphics, so
you would typically install in text mode and then modify your X settings
manually...
