I've searched through all the XP postings and can't find exact same situation
as mine. What I would like to do is buy a brand new XP home OEM version
(because it is much cheaper) and install it as a guest on a Vista laptop with
premium version. Previous posts show regular full XP should work with Vista
premium, but how about a new OEM XP never installed anywhere before? It's
not BIOS tied since never on any machine, but will it work with a VM BIOS?

The OEM versions are frequently marketed without any hardware, and they
explain that you cannot get MS support, cannot upgrade, cannot move to
another machine. That's fine, I just want a cheap XP VM, or at least as
cheap as I can find.

can advertise that they will install and work on any hardware ready computer

sell.....) But seriously, are the OEM versions any good AT ALL?

You can do what you asked about. The XP in the vm and the host OS do not
interact directly so it does not matter what the host is. All that matters
is that the guest OS installs in the vm OK (and a generic OEM will).
