What's the relationship between Aero running in a VM, the VPC2007 virtual
graphics card, and the real graphics card on your hardware machine?

1. Can you use Aero in a VM without a Vista-supported hardware graphics card?

If so, is using VPC actually a workaround for people whose computers don't
have a Vista-supported graphics card?

Is it sluggish and/or buggy?

2. If you do have a Vista-supported hardware graphics card, will "Aero
Glass" 3D run in a Vista VM?

And BTW, in case I still haven't found it, where's Microsoft's list of
supported graphics cards for Vista (Aero, and "Aero Glass" 3D)?

Not that I am aware of. Of course performance is very much dependent
upon the physical system and is a also a matter of interpretation.

No, there was a hack in the beta, but it was buggy. (to say the least)

It's not a workaround for that. The only way to get Glass in a VM is
to attach to it with Remote Desktop from a PC that is running Vista
and is Glass capable.

It's not any buggier than Vista on anything else. As for performance,
that depends on a lot of things, but if configured properly, it's a
bit slower than running as the host OS on the same PC.

No, except for connecting to it via RDP as I mentioned above.

So no Aero on VPC 2007 running normally.

Do you know if/think that VPC using the hardware graphics card as a
co-processor is something that will get implemented in future versions? I
imagine this will be necessary as in future versions of Windows an advanced
graphics UI will no longer be optional.

More practically, can you tell me a bit about using Remote Desktop.

Can I connect via Remote Desktop to a VM on the same machine as I'm on? Is
the VPC app running? When do I turn Aero on? Is this normal and stable enough
for QA testing or will possibly introduce weird issues? Is it going to
increase my RAM requirement -- host OS RAM + Remote Desktop OS RAM + VPC OS
RAM?

BTW do you know if any of the competitors (VMWare, etc.) can run Aero
directly?

I don't know but I seriously doubt it. That would be for future
products to deal with I imagine.

Yes, and it will have to be. (or use another virtualization program
like VMWare or Virtual Server)
