Can I configure Virtual machine to run a guest os from a separate physical
drive or will ot only recognize a virtual hard disk image?

My Situation:
I've got a pc with Vista Enderprise on one hard drive and XP Pro on a
seperate physical hard drive. Currently the only way I can switch between the
two is by entering the setup menu upon startup and changing the boot device
priority. I tried another similar program but it would only allow the guest
OS to be a virtual hard disk image, and I couldn't figure out how to boot the
guest OS from the second hard disk.

Anyone know if I can do this with VM2007?

No, a virtual machine under VPC does not run directly from a hard drive.
It uses a virtual hard disk as you describe.
