Running Virtual PC 2007 on Vista Business Edition as host.

After installing the Virtual Machine Additions in guest Windows
installations, the mouse pointer disappears when you move the pointer
over a text input box. I found a work-round posted a few years back
(presumably for VPC 2004): reduce the hardware acceleration setting
of the graphics adapter. That works fine for Windows XP and 2000 Pro
but not for Windows 98SE or ME - can anyone suggest a work-round for
these latter OSes?

I'd have thought it would have been fixed by now - or is there some
fundamental reason it can't be fixed?

What Sylvain was suggesting is that you install an earlier version of the
VMAdditions in your W98/WinMe guests rather than the version which comes
with VPC2007.

As an aside, this is essential with W95 and DOS, as these are no longer
supported and there are no additions for them with VPC2007.

Yes, I had the same problem, too. In your hosted screen, change the mouse appearance to black (control panel>mouse settings>....), and in inputs and text-editing regions, instead of disappearing, you get a 'moving cursor' pointer'.

What is interesting - when I decreased hardware acceleration the problem is
gone but mouse moves not smoothly :(

In the mouse options within the control panel, I checked the "Display pointer trails" under the Pointer Options tab. It's a bit annoying, but not as annoying as an invisible mouse pointer.

Hi there,

I found another workaround which works very fine.
Just get the cursors from your vista-system (i.e. "C:\Windows\Cursors") and replace the I-Beam cursor of your current scheme in virtual pc with the cursor you copied from vista.

It works without disabling the hardware-acceleration :D

It was a quite annoying problem indeed, but for me the mouse point black scheme works perfectly.

No need to alter the hardware acceleration or whatsoever.
