To install 6.10 do teh following
For Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 and Ubuntu 6.10 do the following:
1. Install from ubuntu-6.10-alternate-i386.iso and complete the
installation. <<< NOTE: this is the ALTERNATE install iso and NOT the
ubuntu-6.10-desktop-i386.iso. Check which one you have.
2. Hit the Esc key when the GRUB loader appears after reboot and boot into
recovery mode.
3. Run dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg and leave all the default settings as
below except set color depth to 16.
4. Send Ctrl+Alt+Del to reboot once it's done and you should be set.

Where do you find the Alternate version? I can only find the desktop one
which I've spent nearly an hour trying to install and even had info about
hte video problem. But, it never booted where I could find the grub
loader. No text on screen for that. No matter what I did. It showed the
Ubuntu logo for a bit, then just a black screen, then garbage. I finally
gave up. Couldn't get it to do anything. I don't think it installed, I
think it was just trying to run Live off the CD too because everytime I
restarted, it went right back into the same thing.
Thanks!

Got it installed and working, all except for sound. I saw that someone

Thanks everyone for the great advice.
