Hello,

I'm trying to run an old DOS program in DOS on top of Virtual Machine 2004
SP1 and I keep getting an 'Exception 14' Error. When I run the program thru
Win98SE on top of VM2004 it runs great. When can be done to fix this? The
only thing I can think of is memory issues or something that running it on
top of Windows somehow 'helps' the program with memory. This program does
work in DOS on an old laptop that only runs DOS so I know this program does
work. (It also run much smoother in DOS so that is why I'm trying to get it
to work in DOS not on top of Windows) What can be done to fix this? Any ideas?

I question the comment about the file system on the host. The vhd is just a
data file on the host. If there is an issue regarding file systems surely
it is in the guest. What is the capacity of the vhd? 16Gb? Would that be
an issue for DOS 6.22?

The version of DOS that I am using is the version that comes with Windows
98SE. I boot into DOS when the PC turn on only by setting the 'BootGUI = 0'
option in MSDOS.sys. The funny part is that this program has other EXE files
that all work in DOS on top of VPC2004 and they all work but not the 1
program that I need to work. As suggested in those other articles, I dropped
the VPC RAM down to as low as 4MB with no success (and every point in between
up to 128MB). I set the virtual hard disk to a fixed size of 16GB. I also
tried the new VPC2007 with the same results (I was hoping a bug was fixed
from the 2004 version that would take care of this problem) As for the file
system part, my host system is of course NTFS (WinXP) and I really don't want
to change it to FAT32. Since the other EXE's work in DOS on top of VPC, I am
assuming that the NTFS/FAT32 thing isn't causing this. I am still thinking
that memory issues are causing this somehow - remember this is working in a
DOS command prompt window ontop of Windows 98SE running on VPC ontop of
WinXP. That is why I'm thinking it is a memory issue that somehow Win98SE's
command prompt memory settings make it work. Any other ideas?
