Im trying to create a Virtual Machine with Windows for Workgroups 3.11 in
Virtual PC and keep running into problems.

What im trying to do is build a wfw3.11 VM with a 2Gb HD and 32-64 MB of RAM
with the following loaded into it.

DOS VM Additions
TCP/IP-32b
MS Office 4.3
Video for Windows 1.1e
WinG Runtimes
S3 Grpahics Driver
Sound Blaster 16 Driver
HP DeskJet 840C Printer Driver

I can sometimes get it to all install but suffer from random General
Protection Fault errors and get Out of Memory errors trying to run Word 6
when plenty of RAM is available.

is there some secret to getting a Windows 3.1 VM to work?

Also could my problem be that the host PC uses an AMD processor (AMD Athlon
64 X2 4600), would I have more luck on a host PC with an Intel Processor?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Since you didn't mention it: does the CPU support virtualization
technology (I think AMD calls it "Pacifica") and is it enabled
on your machine and for the VMs? If so, have you installed
the respective patch? It's available from connect.

BTW, WfW 3.11 runs fine here on my dual-core laptop,
but I don't have installed any "critical" apps.

Thanks for posting those links but I had already read them previously.

The AMD Processor I have is a Socket 939 model so it does not have Hardware
Virtualization, only the Socket AM2 models have that I think.

what im trying to workout is what is causing the errors, am I giving the VM
too much HD space and RAM?, is it a problem that happens with AMD
Processors?, would a host PC with an Intel Processor work better?

Also did anyone find out what caused the TrueType Font error?

I know that on real hardware Windows 3.1 works with 2Gb HD and 64 MB of RAM,
thats why I started with that as the VM settings.
