Norton Ghost 7.5 and HP NC324i NIC

I have a Proliant DL320 G4 server that is currently running Windows2003R2. I
would like to create a virtual pc OS on this computer by ghosting it through
the NIC using norton ghost. The onboard NIC NC324i has two ports which are
teamed using the HP driver on the OS. I wanted to ghost down an image to the
virtual pc. I am guessing I choose the Team interface because i cant choose
an individual port. But when i run the virtual os it gives me an error that
the MAC address is all zeros. If i use my ghost boot disk it does not detect
the nic. I heard there is a virtual driver for the NIC used for the Virtual
PC. Is this right? Or do I have to break the teaming to utilize the NIC
port directly?

boot driver for a VM, you need to use the correct driver. Its not the

You can't do that, none of the hardware is the same. The hardware from
which the image was taken is not going to match the virtual hardware in the
VM and it will probably just "blue-screen" on startup.

None the less, if I were going to do it, I would do this and avoid any of
the "network" nonsense:

1. Get the ghost image file (the file itself) onto a virtual disk (vhd
file). There is probably more than way, but I would do it like this:
A. build a quick vm with Win98 running on it. The VM must have a second
drive (vhd) as a D: drive (FAT32). Then do the "share folder" thing in VPC
so you can run the Win89 and copy the Ghost image file from the real machine
into the virtual "D" drive.

2. Now for the VM that you were first asking about, create the new VM with
the first blank drive (vhd). Then add a second drive, but use the existing
vhd you created earlier with the Ghost image file on it. So now the Ghost
image file is sitting on the "D" drive of this new machine.

3. Boot the new VM up with either a DOS Floppy or capture a Floppy image.
Ghost.exe needs to be on that floppy. Now run Ghost and choose the image
file from the "D" drive and use the blank "C" drive as the target you want
to apply the image to.

4. Now you can get rid of the "D" drive if you want to and also get rid of
the Win98 VM or keep it for future use.
