Hi,
I wanted to use VPC 2004 or 2007 to install Windows with Linux SLED / SUSE.
Does anyone have experience with this before I begin. I've already
installed it as dual boot on a different laptop, but this time I want it
virtualized. Any website or anything explaining of issues?

I have run most of the SuSE distros in VPC, 2004 and 2007 beta.
The only thing to watch carefully is when you configure your graphics. Use
"Generic LCD" for the monitor (regardless of what you really use) and 16bit
color depth. The S3Trio emulation does not support 24bit color depth in
spite of the fact that the real one does and many Linux distros will set
24bits when detecting the card, not knowing the difference.

2) Create a new virtual machine in VPC2007. I gave it 256 Mb RAM.

I just finshed install of Suse 10 Enterprise and OpenSuse 10-2 desktop under
virtual server 2005 R2.

All install went smooth (s3 800x600, thousand 16 bit). I used Daemon Tools
to link the *.iso images to the G Drive.
Everything was working very nicely, except we still had to use the hotkey to
release the mouse. We decided to install the linux additions from microsoft
as they worked on the Oracle (redhat) and suse 9 before.

I had problems the linux additions that finally were resolved by copying the
entire additions cd content to desktop and launch install from there. I kept
getting error about dependancy on the x11 module, but I checked in the rpm
files and confirmed the mouse_drv.o file was actually there, so decided to
just copy files to harddrive and try.

System booted very slowly after the restart.
Run Level 5 had the failed services during the reboot on services
introducted on the additions: vmadd vmadd-scsi vmadd-heartbeat

Everything did come back up but the mouse was still not released properly.

We checked on the Suse 10 enterprise and there was not the vmadd-x11 package
nd all the other services were not started. (default is run state 3&5). We
manually tried to start the vmadd but it gave error (kernel module not found).
/etc/init.d/vmadd start

On the OpenSuse 10-2, the same problem.

Maybe someone can determine why the kernel module is not present, and why
the vmadd-x11 package completed successful install, but did not show up in
the services.
