Networking between Virtual PCs

Hi,

I am using Virtual PC 2004. I've got two guest PCs both of which are
running Windows XP with SP2. I've configured both the guests to use
the "Microsoft Loopback Adapter" and I've installed and configured the
loopback adapter on the host (which is also running XP with SP2). The
PCs have all been configured to use TCP/IP with static IP addresses
assigned from the 172.16.0.* address range. No gateways have been
configured.

I basically want my host and the 2 virtual machines to be able to talk
to each other. Both of my virtual machines are able to ping the host
successfully. The host is also able to connect to the virtual PCs.
Communication *between* the virtual machines however is not working.
If I ping VPC2 from VPC1 it always times out (and vice versa).
However, I am able to see an entry in the ARP cache for the remote VPC,
i.e., if I do this from VPC1 assuming 172.16.0.3 is the IP address of
VPC2:

C:\> ping 172.16.0.3

Pinging 172.16.0.3 with 32 bytes of data:

Request timed out.
Request timed out.
Request timed out.
Request timed out.

Ping statistics for 172.16.0.3:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 0, Lost = 4 (100% loss),

C:\> arp -a
Interface: 172.16.0.2 --- 0x10003
Internet Address Physical Address Type
172.16.0.3 00-03-ff-4d-4f-50 dynamic

As you can see the network is working up until ARP. It's the physical
communicatino that's not happening. I think I am missing something
basic. Appreciate if you folks can help!

Thanks.
