Very slow in Virtual PCSource: microsoft.public.virtualpc Sent: 09/30/2006 From: Samuel Chan Message:I installed VPC in my notebook (Fujitsu S6130 - Pentinum M 1.4G, 512M Ram,
Win XP pro). Everything is okay.
Then I installed a Linux to VPC, the speed is very very slow, it need more
than a hour to install a Linux. Normally, I installed it to my Notebook less
than 30min.
The principle of VPC is good (at least I can try different o/s platform
easily) but the speed is really a question.

A couple of points here. First of all, you don't have nearly enough
memory. You should have at least 1 GB, more is better. Secondly, how are
you installing Linux? From a physical CD/DVD? If so, you'll find the
install is much faster if you install directly from an ISO. Finally, how
fast is the hard drive in your notebook and do you have only a single
drive? The faster the driver, the better, my guess is that your drive is
either a 4200 or 5400 RPM drive which is slow, and if you've only got a
single drive then VPC is competing with the host OS for disk access as
well.

Thank you all.
Today I use 2 hours to install a Linux in VPC, success. The running speed is
not as slow as installing, yes may be the question of notebook dvd drive as
well as ram (also my PM CPU).
