Hi,

we are facing a problem that seems hard to solve using Virtual PC and
before reverting to VM-ware I ask you as a last resort.

We would like to run the Virtual machine on the same IP address as the
physical macine and forward communication on some specific ports to the
Virtual. We've tried using the loopback adapter in conjunction with the
internet connection sharing without success. Any ideas?

Yes u can, not by DHCP only if you set the IP address manualy. however, if
both computers are on the network with the same IP address DNS will be go
insane and the PCs will be limited on network resources.

Hi,

I fully understand that there cannot be 2 servers using the same IP
address on the network. What I mean is that we would like to be able to
connect to the virtual machine from the network using the physical
machines IP address. We would like communication on some specific ports
to be forwarded to the virtual using the loopback adapter. This does
not work unfortunately.

I tried the outline described in this article
http://www.governmentsecurity.org/archive/t10129.html and it works
fine but there should be a way of doing it without having to use a port
forwarder.
