Message:Thanks Jack and Mark.
I did tried that but when installing and specified the driver location was
in A:\, LAN Manager kept saying "No driver was found in the specified
location (path)". I have three files "DC21X4.DOS", "PROTOCOL.INI", and
"DC21X4.NIF" in the floppy drive, but I can never get the LAN Manager to go
past that error message. I also tried to manually modify the files generated
when installing SiS900 driver (PROTOCOL.INI, etc) to use the emulated driver
DC21X4 but it did not work either.
Did I have the wrong driver files? There are a bunch of items listed at the
link Mark pointed out. Is "NDIS2 Unified 21xxx driver v3.0" the correct one
to pick? Sorry I am not that good at telling the differences between those
listed items.
Thanks Again.

To put this in the context of Virtual PC, your *host* has a SiS 900-Based
PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter - your *guests* most certainly don't.
Virtual PC emulates hardware. In the case of the network card, it emulates a
DEC 21140A 10/100 - these are the drivers you need to install.
You can download them here:

I getting the same and and have no resolution yet.
Trying to install the network for DR DOS 7.03 on VPC for Mac 6.x using the Dec 21041 driver and the DC21X4.DOS driver file and PROTOCOL.INI file. I too receive the "Could not open protocol manager." message from the DC21X4.DOS load in my CONFIG.SYS file.
