Error 13

Hi all,
I've got Scientific Linux 3.05 (with recent 2.4 kernel) running under
VPC and virtual pc server. It works quite well (based on Red Hat). I
can run programs, poke around.

I run some simple science programs (:-)) and it works fine. When I
load up a big one, however, I get the dreaded machine must be reset,
error #13 dialog box. I get this even when I'm running from the
text-only console of the machine.

/var/log/messages contains nothing of interest -- not even a single
entry gets generated before the machine does something nasty.

This also happens both with and with out the new Linux machine
additions from microsoft.

The only thing left that I can try out is that I don't have enough
swap space, but I would have expected some warning messages in the logs
about that if that were the case.

My general impression from reading this group is that I should give
up -- these things are impossible to track down. This is, of course,
frustrating because it works on a raw Linux box. I suppose one obvious
thing to do to see if this is the VM implementation or a real problem
with the linux install is to try out VMWare and compare what happens.
I'll do that at some point soon if the swap space thing dosen't get
anywhere. Any help or advice would be most welcome, however!

Cheers,
Gordon.
