VPC 2004 SP1 clean install... guest OS DHCP doesn"t work

Message:

I've never had this problem, but I have a friend who ~always~ hits it and
I can't seem to figure out the problem.

He's installed VPC 2004 SP1 and then created a new guest machine, binding
the physical NIC to the guest machine. The network he's on is a typical DHCP
network... so his laptop NIC is set to do DHCP which works just fine. But,
even though the NIC in the guest OS is configured the same way (dynamically
assign IP & DNS), it never seems to get out and gets the typical 169.* internal
IP.

I seem to remember getting a message on occassion after installing VPC that
you had a post-install step of running an additional batch file included
with VPC that does a networking extra install... but can't remember what.

Ideas?
