Linux on Dynamic Virtual Disks

I was wondering if its even possible to use a dynamic volume under any of
the Linux distributions.

I've tried Ubuntu, Mepis, Suse 10, Mandrake 10, Red Hat (old and Fedora).

I can run them all just fine but I have a 3 to 5 gig Virtual Hard Disk for
each.

I estimate that they cant run on a dynamic volume but just curios if anyone
else has solved this.

The only possible issue you could run into on older versions of Linux
was when the drive was formatted, it would do at a level that expanded
the drive to it's maximum.

I'm using the newest 10.1 linux, Ubuntu and Mepis were downloaded within a
day of the orignal post.

Is there somethign in the install that I can change that will tell it to run
without the full format.
