Upgrading to Virtual PC 2004 SP1

Source: microsoft.public.virtualpc
Sent: 08/27/2006
From: "Gene" <(email address - cut out)>
Message:

I downloaded VPC soon after it was released for free. I installed it
recently, and just installed the Laptop hotfix that is present in a
sub-folder.

I just downloaded and attempted to install VPC 2004 SP1, but received an
error message saying I had to first uninstall the installed version. This
surprised me so I came here to see if anyone had written about upgrading to
SP1.

Several messages indicate some of you have version 5.3.582.27 as your
version number with SP1 installed. My version number already is 5.3.582.32
and I do not have SP1 installed. (At least I did not name the folder I
downloaded VPC into as "SP1", so I assume it was the original version.) Does
the fact my installation is *.32 mean I do not need to install SP1?

If I do need to install SP1 and I uninstall the original, will "My Virtual
Machines" be saved, or do I need to back them up first?

Finally, I have decompressed the SP1 download and there is not Laptop fix
inside it as a sub-folder. Is the laptop fix included in the installation,
and is it no longer necessary to do anything special after installing the
SP1 version on a laptop?

Thanks,
Gene
