Printing froma DOS VM

Source: microsoft.public.virtualpc

Message:

I just installed Virtual PC 2004 for the first time this past weekend and
found this discussion group most helpful as a source of info.

I created a DOS 6.22 VM to run a legacy database that still serves my client
well. I want to retire the old PC running Win98. I have installed the app
and it appears to running fine, but like other DOS apps, it has LPT1 and LPT2
printing ports only. Looks like Virtual PC only supports physical LPT ports,
but the Dell E310 I bought for my client does not have a parallel port.

The printer that will be used is a HP LaserJet 4000 which is parallel only,
I have installed a USB-to-Centronics cable and it is working fine under XP
Pro.

I’ve read pro and con on adding a parallel card to a PC with a VM (on this
discussion group). I have read about the NET USE command, but I don’t think
it is a DOS command; I never had a DOS machine on a network.

I am not sure what to pursue first, but my hunch is that I have to have a
physical LPT port to satisfy Virtual PC need. Any guidance would be greatly
appreciated.

Thanks,
Garth
