I've set up a virtual machine. My OS is windows XP. The virtual hard drive is H

I want to set up windows 98

I insert the installation CD and run setup.

I get a message that I need to install a partition because my hard drive is
NTFS (or whatever).

How do I do that? Do I use Fdisk? If so, from within the virtual machine
console? What would the syntax be?

Or do I use something else?

Would very much appreciate a bit of hand-holding -- I can't seem to find
anything about this in the Virtual PC help files.

Just keep the virtual machine window in focus (active window). Any messages
that appear outside of that window indicates that it is not in focus.
Clicking inside the window will make it the active window. A virtual
machine window is like Las Vegas, what happens there stays there.

You need to run FDISK to partition the virtual hard drive, reboot, and then
you need to FORMAT it before running setup. It's just like if you put a
brand new hard drive in a PC and wanted to install Win98.

When you create a VM in VPC, you create a virtual hard drive with it. To
the host, this is just another file (specifically, a .VHD file)

Then you put your OS CD in the drive. Do nothing on the host, close any

the Virtual PC console. Make sure the host CD is mounted in the guest by
right clicking the CD icon in the lower left hand corner of VPC, and the CD
should boot into installation, with no partitions created yet (just free
