I'm new to virtualization, so please bear with me....

1. When I create a virtual hard drive(s), does it need to be created in the
same partition that VPC is installed on?

2. Can the virtual hard drive be created on a partition other than the
partition that VPC is installed on (thus saving the .vhd files on the
separate partition) ?

3. Can the virtual drive be created on a separate physical disk?

2. A virtual machine's virtual hard drive is just a data file on the host
so you can pick where it is saved.

3. I save mine to external hard drives. USB, firewire, or SATA.

The default is the My Virtual Macines folder on your system drive. You can
change the default location by changing the path in System
Properties>Advanced>Environment Variables>System Variables. The variable is
MYVIRTUALMACHINES and you can enter any path. Create a folder on the target
drive and use the path to it as the value for the variable. If the variable
already exists use the Edit button. If it does not use the New button.

When you create a new virtual machine all of its files will be placed in the
target folder, not just the .vhd file. That is OK.
