Is it at all possible to slow the processor aspect Virtual PC down? MS-DOS
runs programs far to fast for many of them to be usable. I've already tried
changing the preformance options in Options, but to no avail.

I havenâ€™t installed VPC yet but please bear with me. One poster several pages
back said a 20 minute MS-DOS program took 3 hours to run. And now this poster
wants to slow VPC down. I donâ€™t understand that. But my real question is
this: If I install VPC correctly and put in all the extras, approximately how
much slower will it run my DOS database programs than running them in native
DOS? I would be running VPC on a 2.8 GHz, 768MB ram cpu. Are we talking
10-50% slower or more like 400-500% slower? Thanks.

Yes, although it hasnt made any real difference in preformance while the VM
is in use.

Long shot but this may be your problem. If the DOS application was written in
one of the later Borland Pascal versions like the Object-Oriented version
(quite a few of the later DOS programs were) then there is a problem and a
fix. I found the fix by searching for the error code. The code said something
like processor speed is too fast...I don't remember exactly as it has been a
while. Once you find it follow the instructions and it will insert a small
"exe" patch into the program to adjust for the faster CPU cycle speed. For
example, the DOS database program Paradox had this problem. Good luck.

speed so that this information could be used by the time-delay subroutine.
Well, on sufficiently fast CPUs it would divide by zero. Borland released
a patcher which could be applied to the compiled executables (you do not
have to have the source code or the compiler).

I don't remember the error message, but it was distinctive and you can

If you are using an application written for an XT system, then it will run
hyperactively, like it's on speed.

The application will take its clock timings from the CPU, instead of the RTC
