to give VPC 2007 away for free, not punish people that paid hard cash for it
to only be given away to others.
Its like what if you paid for Windows Vista, then six months later Microsoft
quits charging $499 for the Ultimate Edition and gives it away. My $499 is
now cheappened to free and I don't get my $499 back.

So, you don't buy any computer hardware either? Prices are

What about your vehicle? As soon as you buy a car, it's value begins
to drop...

Message:I agree that's not a pleasant thing to see that something that you have paid
for a few months ago is now offered free of charge but with the release of
the VMWare Player a few months ago and the release of the VMWare Server
today (what a coincidence!), MS simply didn't have any more choice.
In the same way that MS has cut the legs of Netscape a few years ago by
offering its IE for free, VMWare was in the process of cutting the legs of
MS in the domain of virtualisation softwares.
This is a cutthroat business with no mercy to the fact that you have paid
for it two months ago.

IMHO:
Microsoft Virtual Server 2005 R2 was 'free', other (non-Microsoft) virtualization solutions too,
and the technology is dedicated to be (sooner or later) included in the OS anyway....
(remember, even AMD & Intel begin to include some virtualization hardware support in their CPUs)
Compare it with many other technologies like e.g. a web browser;
I paid for Netscape many years ago.... Now every OS has a browser built-in for free.
