else to put the vmc and saved state files?

By default they are stored in the My Documents which in our environment is
on the network. Not good for performance.

Thanks Steve. The environment variable wasn't visible in my system
properties (WinXP) and I also searched the registry for the setting but
couldn't find it.

I was able to add the variable in System Properties and that did do the trick.
