Stand alone XP machine connecting to WIN2003 Server on VPC

Message:

Hello everybody,

On my WinXP box I installed Virtual PC 2004 (VPC). In VPC I run a Windows
2003 server. It's not a domain controller or anything like that. Both the
client and the VPC have a static IP address in the same range. On the WinXP
client I created a HOSTS and an LMHOSTS file to be able to lookup the
machinename of the VPC box.

When there is no networkcable attached to the WinXP box the 2
machines -cannot- 'see' eachother. When there -is- a networkcable attached
to the WinXP box then -can-.

I tried fiddling with the 'local only' setting of the VPC but I can not get
it to work.

Does anybody have any hints or tips on how to get this to work? I can't
imagine this isn't possible at all...

Thanks for reading sofar,

Vinz.
