Multiple host machines for one VM

Background:

- Software test lab with approximately eight test machines - all identical.
- Current system is to use Ghost images to restore PC's to different test
configurations.

If I understand correctly, I won't be able to run a single VM on multiple
hosts concurrently. Plus, as I think about it, I probably wouldn't want to
given the bandwidth issues.

We may look at using VS in the future, but for right now we want to examine
the viability of using VPC on the test machines.

The goal is to have a repository of VM's that would replace the roughly 8
different images that we might use for testing. Currently, all of the host
machines are identical hardware (thus allowing our image / restore system).

Oh, and we have plenty of OS / product liscences to cover all of the VM's
and any copies of the VM's that might be created.

Based on my readings here and the MSDN articles, it looks like a workable
solution would be to create the VM's that I need using the various lab
computers, then move those off into a file server and consider them to be the
"clean" copies of the installs. When it comes time to load a configuration,
it should be copied local to the host machine, then booted. Is there a
better solution than this?

Thanks.

Eric
