Can"t Print To Shared Printer

Source: microsoft.public.virtualpc
Sent: 04/02/2006
From: John Schneider
Message:

I have a USB printer on the host XP Pro SP2 machine. Its shared, and
accessible by other computers on my home network, but I can't get to it from
an XP VM.

The VM's networking was initially set to NAT, but when that didn't work, I
changed it to use the network card directly (i.e. get its own IP from the
DHCP), but can't add the printer either way. If I type the printer name
directly (\\hostmachinename\printername), I get an error "Windows cannot
connect to the printer. Either the printer name was typed incorrectly, or
the specified printer has lost its connection to the server." If I browse
for the printer, it doesn't even show the host computer, although it does
show that computer's workgroup.

Origionally, the VM was in its own workgroup (MSHOME) and the host PC was in
the WORKGROUP workgroup. I even tried chaning the VM to WORKGROUP so they
would both be in the same workgroup, but still, no go. That should not have
mattered anyway, given that the other machines on the network are not all in
the same workgroup as the host, but they can add the networked printer.

Any ideas out there what else I can do? I've read through the help,
knowledge base, and this newsgroup, but still can't figure this out.

Thanks
