debugging guest

I have a guest machine that is just hangs.
no feedback is received when moving the mouse or keyboard
CPU is high,
this guest is saved, and I don't want to lose the data in the running
machine.

is there a way to connect to the machine when running throught a serial port
and to debug it without installing any software before? (visual studio 2003
does installed there if I think about it)

what are the options to debug / save a guest in this state?

any idea would be appreciated.

It is only possible to debug software inside of the virtual machine if
you have first configured it to support debugging (just like with a
physical computer).

well, from your experience -
is there something that can be done with this guest - can it be connected
it has visual studio instlled.

but if a machine hangs does being configure to remote debugging will enable
debugging it?
doesn't the serial port needs a process in the debugged machine to give
accesss to the machine...

is there something that can be done in order to take a guest from hang state
back to live?

i tried to attach a cdrom iso image in order to cause some interuption but
with no help.

As Ben mentioned, to enable kernel debugging over a serial port, requires
that the target OS be configured for kernel debugging. this KB article takes
you though the steps required:
