I have a Virtual PC 2004 installed on a System with the following spec:

AMDÂ® ATHLONÂ® 64BIT 3700 (San Diego) 1MB L2 Cache (939 pin)
4096 MB DDR400 PC3200
ASUSÂ® A8N-SLI SE: DUAL DDR, S-ATA, 2 x x16 VGA, 3 PCI
2 x SATA II 80 GB HARD DISK @ 7200rpm 8mb cache on Raid 0

I have an extra NIC installed, which VPC uses as a physical card and the
host operating system is a fully patched clean install of XP Pro (Same as the
guest)

I have been kind enough to dedicate 1.5 GIG of my RAM the VPC and have even
tried checking the box to say â€œRun Virtual machines as fast as possibleâ€ etc
so WHY has it taken half a day to install the windows updates? The
Installation disk already had SP2 on it so that wasnâ€™t even on the download
list, the VPC just runs unusable slow. WHY?

At any rate, its a configuration problem of the host, not an overall
VPC performance issue. VPC VMs can perform very well on much
slower/older systems.

I have certainly had an interesting time using VPC!
I managed to sort this problem; I turned off automatic updates, rebooted and
installed them manually via the windows update site. Iâ€™ve turned them back on
again now and all is working fairly well.

Had a few other issues with intellipoint along the way I thought I might
mention these as well.

I needed to install intellipoint V 4.12 as VB6 uses needs the universal
scrolling feature removed in V 5. On doing so I lost the mouse on the VPC and
I have found the only way to have intellipoint installed on the VPC is to
uninstall additions and install intellipoint. It seems you canâ€™t have
additions and intellipoint installed on a VPC, or does anyone know any
different?
