MS-DOS 6.22 xcopy or copy hangs when copying to shared folder

Message:

I've used xcopy copy large directory structures to and from a shared folder
without any problem. However, when xcopy'ing a directory structure that has
around 20 1K files, each in it's own subdirectory a to a shared folder on my
host PC the VM hangs on the 4th file. The same happens if I create a batch
file using copy for each file. When I remove the offending file out of the
directory structure the next file becomes the problem. The offeding directory
structure can be xcopy'd to new directory on the VM without a problem. Just
to double check, I tried xcopy from the new directory to the shared folder,
and the same problem occurs.

The xcopy'ing is part of a job that gets run each day, so it's a pain. In
the end zipping the files and unzipping them withing the VM to the shared
folder was the workaround.

Is this a DOS 6.22 problem within the VM? Has anyone else experienced the
same and was there a solution other than zipping the files?
