Greetings to all,
I'm running Virtual PC 2004 (Build 582) on an XP Pro SP 2 system. The Guest
OS's are XP Pro SP 2 (a seperate copy) and Server 2003 Enterprise (Build 3790)
It's set up as a small Domain for working on my MSCA.

I'm unable to achieve internet connectivity. On the Host machine I'm using
an onboard NIC, a VIA Rhine II Fast Ethernet Adapter. In VPC settings, it
shows as a VIA Compatable Fast Ethernet Adapter. I have one virtual NIC
installed for conntecitity within my Virtual Domain. I cannot ping the
client from the server but can ping in the other direction.

I have installed a second Virtual NIC for linking with my physical NIC for
internet conntecivity. The choices available to me in VPC settings are: NOT
CONNECTED, LOCAL ONLY, VIA COMPATABLE FAST ETHERNET ADAPTER and SHARED
NETWORKING (NAT) None of these will allow me internet connectivity.

Any ideas on this since I would like to get updates for these guest os's

Just an update. I have installed an update on VPC and now am running version
5.3.582.27 and do have internet connectivity on my guest system running XP
Pro. I have Server 2003 configured the same and still no internet.

What is your host connected to? When you have the VMs connected to your
VIA card - what does an "ipconfig /all" inside the VMs display?

Try going into the virtual pc settings, before you boot your virtual pc ,
and change the NIC settings to a (NAT)Network Address Translation. it will
then utilize your hosts internet connectivity.

That is fine for a quick fix, but it will not solve your problem when
you try to run Active Directory on the server. You will strike the same
problems as you would strike running a domain controller behind an ICS
setup.
