But to answer the main question, no. No announcement has been made for =
a VPC Next.

VPC and VSR2 are two different though related products. There never has =
been any upgrade path from VPC to VS as there might be for XP Home to =
Pro. They address different markets. VPC is for client operating =
systems in virtual machines and VS is for server operating systems in =
virtual machines. Obviously you can run client vm's in VS and vice =
versa, but those are not MS supported scenarios.

Microsoft has made no announcements regarding VPC for 64-bit hosts. Since
VPC Next has not been announced, of course there is no pricing for it.

The blog you are referring to is about the free VMWare PLAYER. That it is
NOT VMWare Workstation. VMWare continues to charge for Workstation. VMWare
Player cannot create or modify virtual machines. It can only play virtual
machines created by other virtualization products.

When you say Microsoft has a competing product to VPC (Virtual PC), you are
probably referring to VPC Express. It is not a competing product to Virtual
PC. VPC Express is for Vista Enterprise when used by businesses which
participate in the Software Assurance program (volume license customers).
VPC Express will have slightly different features than VPC 2004 and it is
not targeted at the consumer retail market.
