Spot og bother with network connection

hi,

I have installed virtual PC 2004 SP1 on my XP Pro workstation. I have also
installed various other microsoft and linux based OS's and they all seem to
be working fine so far. Woo hoo!

EXCEPT, as soon as I try to contact the outside network from within the
virtual machine (any one of them) my host machine's network connectoin fails.
i.e. I set a constant ping off to google and load up server 2003 eval version
(or Ubuntu linux) in virtual PC. As soon as I try to ping the gateway from
the VM, I start getting hardware errors on the host machine where google was
previously replying.

Does anyone have any idea as to what could be causing this? The host machine
is on a workgroup which is using a shared internet connection from another XP
workstation on the network. Is this an internet connection sharing issue?

Any advice would be grealty appreciated. If you need any more info regarding
my setup, please let me know. I have tried setting the VM's network
connections as both NATted and directly using the hosts adapter.

Thanks in advance.

Hamish
