VirtualPC2004 SP1 intermittently breaks/resets host machines network

Hi,=20

I've got what's a major annoyance - doubly annoying since I originally
purchased the stand-alone version prior to getting my MDSN Universal
subscription.

The problem is that VirtualPC2004 is constantly breaking/resetting the
_host_ machines networking.

Basically my environment is as follows:

Host PC is running WinXP Professional SP2, Virtual PC2004 SP1.

Internet access is via a Wireless Router.
Wireless Interface -> Wireless Router
Local Area Connection -> Local switch with other machines connected to
it.

The above two connections are _Bridged_, resulting in a Network Bridge
"MAC Bridge Miniport". This is to allow the other machines without
wireless cards to access the internet via the host machine. This is
perfectly fine when Virtual PC 2004 is not installed.

Below is a tiny subset from my System's event logs - with Virtual PC
2004, (SP1) installed it can be ok for a while, and then be
problematic for quite a while before settling down again. Can't relate
it to anything else showing up in the event logs / application usage
etc. etc.

Every one of the entries below causes the hosts network to drop out
(very obvious when the wireless connectivity disappears for a few
seconds, then re-establishes itself).
This problem occurs even if I've never started up any Virtual PC's
since last reboot - presumably because the VM Network Service is run
at Windows start up.

The text that goes with the below entries is:

"The system detected that network adapter MAC...- Virtual Machine
Network Services Driver was connected to the network, and has
initiated normal operation over the network adapter."

It's an absolute nuisance, because I have to uninstall / reinstall
whenever I want to use virtual machines - just using the program in
the \Utility folder on the CD to uninstall / reinstall the networking
driver is not reliable enough.

Additional info: I've recently installed the patch from
http://www.lvllord.de/?lang=3Den&url=3Dtools to get rid of the occasional
"EventID 4226: TCP/IP has reached the security limit imposed on the
number of concurrent TCP connect attempts" that was occurring, but the
problem was occurring long before installing the patch a couple of
days ago. Its just bugged me enough now to post about it here.

Also, for some reason (not 100% sure on this), but the Wireless
Network Connection part of the bridge in "Network Connections" becomes
marked as "Not connected" although the bridge continues to function
fine (aside from the above mentioned issue).

(Also, I run into and have to occasionally resolve the issue referred
to at
http://blogs.msdn.com/virtual_pc_guy/archive/2005/01/17/354971.aspx).

I've had a search through the newsgroups and not found anyone with
similar problems - Can anyone shed some light as to the cause and
possible remedies?

Thanks,
Gordon
