Mouse NG in Fedore Core 3 after up2date

After allowing up2date to install all updates on Fedora Core 3 under VPC SP1,
and rebooting the VPC with the new kernel, the boot fails at the X server
stage with "cannot open /dev/psaux" and a configuration error on Mouse0.

Reverting to the VPC test kernel with the Grub loader makes Kudzu come up to
complain about a missing Sound Blaster, but otherwise works.

How do I fix the mouse configuration to get the latest kernel to work? Can I
do something with the Mouse configuration program?

Editing /etc/X11/xorg.conf to use /dev/input/mice as the Mouse0 device
instead of /dev/psaux did the trick. I couldn't figure out how to do this
with mouseconfig, but I was able to edit the file with vim from a text-only
login and su.
