VPC SP1, SpeedStep, and timing issues

Message:

For me, timing issues have always been a bit tenuous with Virtual PC running
on my laptop (no, not a Dell, but yes, Centrino w/SpeedStep) -- sound is
choppy, cursor blink rate is a bit funny, key repeat rate in dos and some
Windows applications is off the wall. However, I was mostly able to work
around the issues by changing my power management scheme to "Always On", or,
to a lesser extent, changing it away from "Max Battery" and plugging it in.
VPC SP1 (running on XP SP2), however, seems to make the problem bad beyond
repair. The discrepency between real time and "virtual time" is much worse,
and nothing I do seems to restore reasonable timing. I frustrated enough I'm
about to uninstall SP1 for the second time (which is plenty frustrating
itself, since it has is no uninstaller!)... Does anyone have any
suggestions?

Thanks.
