Static IP address ... sorta

Source: microsoft.public.virtualpc

Message:

I have an Oracle database running on a Windows Server 2003 virtual machine
using VirtualPC 2004 on a WinXP SP1 host (corporate will get around to SP2
"someday"). The Oracle Management Server functionality requires a static IP
address. Good enough ... I know how to set up static IP addresses. Here's
the kicker though. I'm sometimes at work, and sometimes at home, so the same
static IP address won't work.

I also need to communicate to / from other virtual machines, the host
machine, as well as other network resources. From my understanding that
rules out shared networking, correct? I started looking at the Loopback
Adaptor options, but my head started hurting **smile**. Am I on the right
track? Can I use a static IP address that is local within the host / virtual
pc, but still get to other network resources?
