Hi,

I'm trying up the number of clients (XP Pro) in my system to exercise my
Server App (Advanced Server 2003). I'd like to make 3 or 4 virtual PC's out
of each box. Is there a limit to how many instances of virtual pc's can be
run at a time?
Should I purchase a ton of memory to keep the performance realistic?
Is there a better way of simulating clients than this?

Any help or suggestions we be greatly appreciated.

Are you using Virtual PC 2004 or Virtual Server 2005?

Three or four clients (guests) is not a problem. Calculate memory based on
the host's requirements plus the memory to be allocated for each vm (guest).
If all the vm's are XP then allow 128mb minimum for each guest running
simultaneously (256mb is better, of course). VPC can use 4GB, including the
host, but no more than 3.6GB for any one guest. Performance will depend on
the speed of the host and the settings for the guests. If you have at least
1GB of ram you should do just fine.
