Starnge problem with NT4 after installing SP1

Message:

Hello All,

I'm having a strange problem after installing VPC2004 SP1.
The host OS is Windows 2000 Professional SP4.
The guest OS is Windows NT 4.0 Workstation SP6a with VM Additions.
The guest OS uses "hal.dll.softex" extracted from SP installation as
"hal.dll" in order to
enable power management (in the case of virtual PC this means the VPC window
on
the host PC would close automatically when the guest OS has been shutdown).
Everything worked fine before installing VPC SP1. Now (with SP1) power
management
in the guest OS does not work any more. And a strange thing happens with CPU
utilization.
When the virtual machine with NT4 is running the host (real) CPU is 100%
occupied by
"VirtualPC.exe" even if the guest (virtual) CPU is idle and there is no
virtual HDD or network
activity. The problem disappears if I replace SoftEx "hal.dll" back with the
original one.

I'm wondering whether anyone else has experienced this kind of problem?
Is there a known solution or a workaround? (Or at least an explanation?)

P.S. I did not forget to reinstall VM additions after upgrading to SP1. I
even tried to make a new
clean installation of the guest OS, but the problem persists.
