I use a Router and have 2 PCs attached to it and am currently assigning IP
addresses automatically (starting at 192.168.2.1). Is there anyway of
getting a
Router to assign the IP address to my Virtual PC installed on one of my PCs?

Reason for this query is that I need to open some Ports in the Router for the
Virtual PC to use but the Router only allows this configuration for IP
addresses
beginning 192.168.2

Any thoughts / ideas most welcome.

Thanks Rick. I've tried this but unfortunately when I change my Networking
options under Settings to anything other than NAT I no longer can get an
internet connection on the Virtual PC i.e. I've changed it to be the name of
my Wireless Network Adapter.

BTW is that right the option in Settings - Networking is for the name of my
Wireless Network adapter as opposed to the name of the actual Router?

That is right, it should be the name of the adapter, not the router. I
assume you have DHCP available from your router? If not, if you don't use
NAT on the VM you may have to assign an address directly.

Yes I have DHCP available from the Router as my PCs automatically have their
IPs assigned to them, it's just the VM that doesn't. I'm a bit stuck now,
I've tried 2 things (seperately)

1) Using the Wireless Network Adapter for the Network connection as
mentioned - this results in the Virtual PC's internet connection no longer
working
2) Leaving the Network connection as NAT but assigning a static IP address
(192.168.2.3) and changing the Gateway and DNS, but again I can no longer
connect to the internet via Virtual PC after this.

If neither of these work I think I'm a bit stuck in getting my Virtual PC IP
address in the 192.168.2. format, unless you've any inspirational ideas?!

That's a problem, Some wireless adapters can't be used in a mode that allows
VPC to work in virtual switch mode.

That cannot work, it's not the way NAT works.

Can you use a wired network adapter?

I've had a bit more of a play around including trying a few different driver
versions for the Linksys Network Adapter on the Virtual PC but to no avail.

Unfortunately I can't use a wired connection so I may be a bit stuck!
