Looks like VMWare Wks 5 will support isochronous USB devices (web cams,
microphones, speakers, etc). Interesting choice. I think I would rather
have support for mass storage devices like my USB memory stick. Yeah I know
I can get it to work using SharedFolders but then again why not do that for
floppy and CD-ROM drives.

I also like the idea of providing an easy way to close VMs while taking care
of things like computer domain names/accounts and SIDs.

Biggest news is support for 64bit host hardware/OS. It's supposed to run on
AMD and Intel EM64T running Windows XP (they say experimental support). I'm
assuming that is Windows XP Pro x64. You can read more about it here:

Does this alter the SID though ?
- I had a lot of grief copying vmware images, before I found out about
sysprep and SID
- the MSMQ queues on one machine started talking to another clone :-(

But I can see if I just want one machine "alive" at any one time, the
copying of the vhd looks to be an excellent suggestion

Copy the vhd, create a new vm and attach the hd, change the ip address and
machine name if needed on first bootup, and adjust the nic address if
needed. Never had a problem that way, but going from a physical machine can

testing/development, so things like key's and such aren't a problem (MSDN
licensing)...

That's really beyond anything I know for sure. I don't use MSMQ, but if
it's picking up the original machine, it could be you have to rejoin the
domain to uniquely identify the machine. That's one of the things that I
normally do right after copying a VM. (not that I copy that many VM's...)
I've never had a problem rejoining the domain as long as the machine name
was different.

VMWare 4.5 works fine for me with a standard Lexar USB memory stick. I
used it several times yesterday. (Very handy when doing networking
with several concurrent guests that are mostly isolated from each other).

The teams feature will be really nice. I currently have to run a VM
with BSD and dummynet to simulate various network characteristics.

I can't see any other features in VMWare 5 other than 64 bit support
that aren't just automating something many of us have done by hand
for years.
