Cannot network host and guest OS

I currently have an XP Pro host with a 2000 server guest machine. The guest
machine has no problems with connecting to the internet, however I cannot get
the guest and host to communicate.

They cannot ping, they cannot browse each other or communicate in any other
fashion. I have installed the Loopback adapter on the host and have assigned
it a static IP of 192.168.3.2, subnet 255.255.255.0. I also set the guest
machine with an ip of 192.168.3.1. The virtual nic for the guest is set to
the loopback adapter.

I had the similar problem except that the Virtual PC was running WIndows
Server 2003 domain controller instead of Windows 2000 DC. This is what I did.

ON HOST PC (XP PROF)
---------------------------------
Installed MS Loopback Adaptor on host PC(XP Prof) and set it to obtain IP
from DHCP.
Under control panel, network connections = checked Virtual Switch Ethernet
Adaptor
Configured Virtual PC settings = PC/Setting/Networking = Virtual Switch
(local,host and external)
File/Preferences/Virtual Switch = Microsoft Loopback Adaptor.

ON VIRTUAL PC RUNNING WINDOWS SERVER 2003 DC
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Assigned static IP - 192.168.131.1 MASK 255.255.255.0 no gateway to INTEL
based network adaptor. Didn't install Microsft Loopback Adaptor on virtual PC.

Installed DHCP and created new scope (192.168.131.x) and assigned DNS and
gateway to point to 192.168.131.1

Thats it. My host PC is now able to successfully ping/connect to virtual PC
running windows 2003 regardless of whether my Intel ethernet adaptor is
plugged to the network or not.
