WMP10 objects to playing media from shared folder

Running XP SP2 guest under XP SP1 host. VPC additions installed and shared
folder defined containing media, MP3, WAV and MPG.

When trying to launch or open with MP10 on the guest I get a pop-up saying
WMP cannot play the file. Then stuff about verifying the connections (see
image if possible).

I can copy the file from VPC shared folder to the VHD (the desktop) and then
play it.

Accessing the same folder via normal network map/share from guest to host
plays OK.

Any ideas, as I like the shared folder facility and do not want to do all
the networking sharing stuff with every guest.
