Applied SP1 and still have host rebootsSource: microsoft.public.virtualpc Sent: 12/11/2004 From: Mark Hirst Message:After installing VPC 2004 and SP1, I still get reboots of the host when
starting a virtual PC session. Windows XP SP1 on AMD Athlon XP3000+, 1.5GB
RAM.
Are there other steps I need to take to get this working?

Update BIOS, drivers, etc. Check your hardware for malfunctions,
usually its failing RAM, try reseating and running a memory test app.

I've never had such failures with any other piece of software. In it's
normal capacity, it is loading immense 3D models and animations in Bryce,
Truespace and Poser running render jobs of several days. If there's dodgy
memory, wouldn't I have stumbled over it by now?

Sent: 12/12/2004 From: Steve Jain <(email address - cut out)> Message:Not necessarily, VPC interacts with a lot of subsystems at low levels,
not just high CPU usage.
The biggest issues are:
1. Old drivers
2. old bios
3. failing memory.
Updating the drivers and BIOS resolves a lot of problems.

No. VPC's use the system very differently then other apps, and
depending on the type of problem, it might have gone gone unnoticed (or
it might be responsible for some other, unidentified, system issues)
Try memtest86, let it run for a few passes and see what happens.

Sent: 12/12/2004 From: Mark Hirst Message:It's all very strange. VMWare works fine, no glitches - thing is, I wanted
VPC so I could use the Microsoft demo materials straight .
I guess it just wasn't to be....
