How secure is VPC?

I am considering setting up a VPC which is used solely to open up
questionable programs that I download. The idea is to have a totally boxed
environment where spyware and viruses are trapped from infecting the rest of
my system. My question is how secure is VPC? Can I use it and have a 100%
assurance that my physical system will be safe?

Hello Chris,

I would venture to say that your VPC will only be as secure as any other
machine on your network, dependent entirely on how well you secure it with
firewall, anti-virus, and anti-spyware utilities. So you should definitely
secure this VPC as you would your host machine. The main vulnerability that
you must consider is in how this VPC can connect to your host, other machines
and/or VPC images in your local environment, and the Internet.

It also depends on what other services you install on it. To start, two
things that I'd suggest you avoid installing are a web server (i.e. IIS)
or any SMTP services.
